Safety Task Force

TCIA expanded its work on safety initiatives with the creation of the Certified Treecare Safety Professional (CTSP) in December of 2005. The former Safety Committee has been replaced by task forces that can respond quickly to changing safety needs of the industry. These smaller groups of industry experts can assemble quickly via teleconferencing, perform digital reviews of instructional materials, and serve the industry from their offices without having to travel to committee meetings.

Peter Gerstenberger, Staff Liaison

For 2006, TCIA is recruiting volunteers with expertise in the following areas:

EHAP: This task force will conduct a review of the Electrical Hazards Awareness Program.

Crane Best Practices Review: This group will provide a final review of the draft for a new best practices guide for crane use.

Tailgate Safety Program Review: The popular Tailgate Safety Program will undergo a review of content, flow, and ease of use for future revisions.

Model Company Safety Program: This program was reviewed in 2005, so this task force is charged with providing final revisions.

Hispanic Worker: This task force will focus on the needs of Hispanic workers and their employers in the area of safety training materials.

Benchmarks for Safety: A group of safety experts that will convene every three years to review TCIA's safety programs, surveys, progress, and collection methods for data.

Research and Development: A task force will be assigned to look at all of the safety projects. programs, and initiatives to help identify areas of need

To volunteer for one or more task force groups, please email Peter Gerstenberger.

The Voice for Trees Political Action Committee

The Voice for Trees works through the legislative process to advance issues vitally important to the tree care industry. The political action committee organizes TCIA members and raises funds necessary to positively affect national tree care issues such as immigration, pesticide regulations, hours of service rules, and changes in the American workplace.
